Frequently Asked Questions (English Books FAQs)

In Bihar Board Matric (BSEB 10th), there are two prescribed English books:
  1. Panorama Part 2 (Main Course Book): Contains 8 Prose lessons (like The Pace for Living, Gillu, Me and the Ecology Bit) and 8 Poems (like God Made the Country, Ode on Solitude, Koel).
  2. Panorama Part 2 Supplementary Reader: Contains 7 engaging short stories (including Premchand's famous January Night, Two Horizons, and Love Defiled).
Around 45 to 50 marks in the paper come directly from these books! This includes:
  • Approximately 20 to 25 Objective MCQs based on chapter characters, authors, and story lines.
  • Short answer questions (5 questions × 2 marks = 10 marks).
  • Long answer questions, explanations, and paragraph writing based on textbook themes.
Every year, 4 to 6 objective questions directly ask: "Who wrote Gillu?" or "Who is the author of The Pace for Living?". The easiest trick is to create a small 1-page table pairing Chapter Name and Author Name (e.g. Gillu → Mahadevi Verma, Ode on Solitude → Alexander Pope, January Night → Premchand) and revise it once every week.
When you understand the story plot and character emotions in your mother tongue (Hindi), answering questions in the exam becomes effortless. You will never get confused about why Halku burnt the leaves in January Night or how Gillu was saved by the author.
